Simple and easy is almost always best when in the woods, but all of the messengers want to convince you of the opposite: They want you to get sucked down the black hole of what is most elaborate or complex. Don't overcomplicate your fires, your food, or anything else for that matter. GPS can overcomplicate things. Not knowing how to use your cutting saw properly can overcomplicate things. Carrying food without considering its calorie count can overcomplicate things. Only carrying food that needs preparation can overcomplicate things.
